Description

The BBO crystal (beta barium borate) is one of the most commonly used nonlinear crystals for harmonic generation in ultrashort pulse applications. BBO crystals exhibit a range of exceptional properties, including high effective nonlinearity (deff)1 and a broad angular and thermal acceptance range. BBO crystals are predominantly employed to generate the second and third harmonics of Ti:Sapphire and ytterbium-based lasers (Yb:KYW, Yb:CALGO, etc.). Another significant application of BBO crystals is in frequency conversion within optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). In recent years, BBO crystals and BiBO crystals have attracted attention for their potential use in Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion (SPDC).
