Description
Holmium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Ho:YAG) is a laser crystal that operates in the 2.1 µm spectral range, making it ideal for various scientific, medical, and atmospheric applications. The low quantum defect of Ho:YAG, combined with the excellent thermo-mechanical properties of YAG, results in a small heat load, offering potential for scaling to high output power.
The radiation wavelength of Ho³⁺ ions in Ho:YAG is near 2100 nm, which is located in the human eye safe band and has high transmittance in the atmosphere. This makes it useful in remote sensing detection, laser ranging, laser radar, and medical surgery. Its penetration depth in the human body is only a few tens of micrometers, and it has little heat damage to the surrounding tissues of the human body. Therefore, it is widely used in medical surgery and treatment.
